Representation of land–atmosphere coupling processes over Africa in coupled model intercomparison project Phase 6

چکیده
Abstract Climate models are useful tools for monthly to decadal prediction of the evolution climate. This study assesses how CMIP6 represent soil moisture-latent heat regimes and coupling processes between land atmosphere. Metrics considered terrestrial atmospheric indices show nature strength over Africa, focusing on March May (MAM) June August (JJA) seasons East, Central, West Africa. Characterization annual cycle indicates that model biases highest during peak rainfall season least dry season, while moisture correspond with rainfall. Models appreciable sensitivity regional characteristics; there was consensus in representing East Africa Sahel as regions limited moisture, major differences were noted wet regime Central Most tend overestimate pathways Southern Inter-model could be traced their inter-annual variability rather than mean variables considered. These results encourage further advancement surface schemes next generation climate a better representation

متن کاملAn overview of results from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project
The Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) collects output from global coupled ocean–atmosphere general circulation models (coupled GCMs). Among other uses, such models are employed both to detect anthropogenic effects in the climate record of the past century and to project future climatic changes due to human production of greenhouse gases and aerosols. CMIP has archived output from bot...
متن کاملThe Southern Ocean in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5
The Southern Ocean is an important part of the global climate system, but its complex coupled nature makes both its present state and its response to projected future climate forcing difficult to model. Clear trends in wind, sea-ice extent and ocean properties emerged from multi-model intercomparison in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 3 (CMIP3). Here, we review recent analyses o...
